December 31, 2010

Wow, it's hard to be 2011 is almost here, I've had to use the date a few times already typing.... 1.1.11 with a start like that it's gonna be a great year!
2010 has been quite a year for us with many struggles and many successes. It always amazes me to take a few minutes and reflect on all that really did happen throughout the year.

I'm looking forward to a wonderful New Year! May 2011 bring you all that your heart desires.

Happy New Year!

It's been a busy Saturday around here

I helped my daughter with a sewing project. We thought and thought about what she could sew and finally came up with Christmas stockings. She's new to sewing, she's made a few small pouches for the family cell phones and Ipod's...as well as a pillow case for her room. It turned into a fun shopping trip where she picked out some fabulous colored fat quarters. This morning, I googled stocking templates online, only to find once I printed them they were too small, so I drew a template on a piece of cardboard and we cut the fabric out with that as the pattern. After a bit of flipping fabrics around I managed to get the pieces laid out for her to stitch together. I haven't done alot of sewing myself so getting all the layers in order is really much more complicated then it seems!

As these projects continue we're having a great time as she learns to sew! I'm so proud of her and the fact the she loves to learn new things.

SEVEN digital addition

It's decision time

I'm makin' my lists for the holidays
decorations - check
gifts - I'm making progress...but everything that needs to be shipped is done
Christmas cards - check
Menu planning for the holidays.....this is where it gets really tough around here

dinner Christmsas Eve...lasagna or takeout pizza
Christmas breakfast...cinnabon cinnamon rolls or yummy homemade baked egg casserole
Christmas lunch is easy....appetizer plates
Christmas dinner...turkey, stuffing, potatoes or crab legs, baked potatoes and salad
New Year's Eve...this one's easy Fondue!
New Year's Day...Ham and scallop potatoes

I need to make some decisions pretty soon, I think I'll have to talk it over with my hubb's and the kids and get their vote.

What do you have planned for your holiday dinners? Any MUST have items it just wouldn't be Christmas without?

So Close

I took a quick trip to the mall the other day with my daughter and she decided she'd like to go talk to Santa...so as we walked to his section we started talking about what she'd like for Christmas. Her plan was to ask for a lime green Dell laptop and while I think this is a spectacular gift idea, I suggested that she might ask for something else too so that she would be surprised {and not broken hearted when the lime green laptop wasn't awaiting her under the tree on Christmas morning}. So we walked a bit while she did some thinking, then just as we approached with her all ready to go talk to Santa, they closed off the gate...soooo while we were close, just not close enough...thankfully I know you can email Santa so we'll do that soon.
Or maybe tomorrow while she's out of school and the boys both have school we'll sneak back over to the mall for a quick lunch and visit with Santa.
