Quick 5 minute project

I've been in search of a good container for our dog food. I found just what I was looking for at Lowes. It's the perfect size and has the ideal flat surface to allow me to customize it with a decal. So this weekend in the midst of the last weekend before the kids go back to school chaos, I took 5 minutes to put the project together. I absolutely love how it turned out.

I was so pleased with it, I've added the decal into my shop here.

It's been a busy week as we try to squeeze in as much as possible before we head back to school on Monday. I can't believe summer break is over! It's a crazy time as we get back into that routine and get ready for a busy holiday season at circlelinestudio. It's hard to plan for the new holiday line as the temps are still reaching 110* outside but it's gotta be done. I'm linking up with Jeannett over at life rearranged.

A story about a special little girl

As you probably know I run circlelinestudio a vinyl wall decal business online. I work from home and spend alot of time cutting, processing and shipping decals. I love my job and every once in awhile I open an email that just touches my heart. I so often get an order and ship the decal to it’s destination end of story. But again once in awhile I get to take a peek my customers world while we work on a custom design.

Not long ago I got an email asking for a special custom design for a little girl who will soon be adopted from Africa. Her name is Alice and she is one LUCKY little girl. I can’t wait to get the email letting me know that the adoption is complete and she’s here with her family.

It’s their story to tell but the history and love behind this decal, this family and this adoption were absolutely overwhelming.

I feel so lucky to have been a part of the process as they designed a room that would welcome Alice into their family, their hearts and their home.

I thought I would take a minute today to share a few of my handmade purchases with you.

In my purse you'll find 2 Pleated Poppy tiny pouches {one for business, the other for personal}. My Gussy tiny zippered pouch which holds a few small essentials like lipgloss, handcream, etc. My planner from Much Ado About You.

Also one of my favorite shops for handmade fabrics and supplies
is the old world quilt shoppe, I don't get a chance to pop in there and shop very often but every time I do I realize what treat it is just walking in the door. If you lucky enough to be in the Phoenix area it's a must see kinda place...

It's been a busy spring break. Filled with chasing, errands, sick kids, school activities, work projects, home projects, yard projects and on and on...but I did manage to get started on the new monogram series for the shop.

I've got a few more coming soon.

We also did a bit of work out on the back porch over the weekend.

Spring break didn't go exactly as planned but we did manage to squeeze in some time to float in the pool. I loved having a bit of time to kick back on a float with a good book and just relax with the kids. Tommy missed out on this but I'm sure he'll make up for it this summer.

DIY Mouse Pad

Today my daughter and I ran a few things up to my hubby at work and there on his desk was an old 2006 calendar mouse pad from some random company {you know the type}.

I had asked a couple weeks ago if he had one so that my daughter could use it with her laptop on the livingroom coffee table rather then using an old magazine. Anyway he handed it to my daughter, which in turn got him the typical 9 year old eye roll that you’d expect at this spectacular gift. As we walked out she looked at me and said “mom, it’s ugly, I think I’ll just keep using the magazine.”

So errands finished we headed home where I asked her to dig through her fabric stash and find something that she’d like as a mouse pad.

I grabbed the fabric she picked, set up the ironing board, grabbed the fabric heat and bond sheets {can’t think of the real name} and set to work. I worked away for all of about 2 minutes and presented her with her new mouse pad…

It's spring break and I swear we're all over the place.

It's spring break which normally means my kids are home and we're doing some fun family stuff. But this year, my kids are out of school and it's been a bit crazy around here.

My oldest son has been working with one of his teacher's in the shop and is building a night stand for his room. They built the mock up version yesterday. {see below in the blurry phone photo}

He has a DIY project due after spring break which will involve him building an entire living room set in a similar manner. This table will be good practice and learning how to use the cool equipment in the school shop has been great.

My middle child, Tommy has been sick since spring break started. After a dr. visit today, we found out he's got pneumonia. So he's had an IV and some heavy duty meds. and we'll go back in tomorrow to see how his breathing is. If it hasn't improved, he'll be checked into the hospital. So much for his fun spring break.

Then there's my daughter, just kicked back and taking it all in stride. We had alot of plans for the break which unfortunately, because of Tommy being sick, Sam busy with school, my hubby facing work deadlines, just aren't gonna happen. So rather then complain she's set herself up out back to catch some rays and read a good book.

.....and in between that I'm working on my to do list. I've got so many idea's floating around, it's just a matter of getting it all into production. I hope to have the prototypes ready to unveil shortly.

I wanted a quick/easy/inexpensive way for my daughter to give her best friend a small Easter gift and of course decided to check the $1 section of our local Target store. These little pails are so cute and for $1 make the perfect little Easter basket.

Mackenzie and I decided to customize this little pail with her best friends name.

Now all that’s left is to fill it with a couple little goodies and give it to her for Easter. I love quick and easy projects like this. These are available in my shop. The fonts can be customized to suit your style. I have them listed in my shop as available in girl style fonts and boy style fonts, but if you have a specific font you’d like me to use just let me know and I’m happy to work with you.

This week is spirit week for my daughter

It's Nevada Reading week and in celebration her school is having spirit days all week {you know what I'm talkin' about crazy hair day, crazy sock day, etc.} Well today was rock your tshirt day - kids were supposed to wear a tshirt that represented their favorite band. So last week in preperation for spirit week we hit all the local shops for a kid size {rockin' band} tshirt only to come home completely empty handed. {okay during our massive search of every.single.store.near us we did come across some justin beiber tshirts - those however got the 9 year old eye roll along with DON'T.EVEN.SUGGEST.IT.MOM. look}. But.... there was no way we were gonna let that deter our plans, so one morning sitting at the bus stop waiting on the bus Mackenzie and I brainstormed a custom tshirt idea based on the song Boom Boom Pow by the black eyed peas...the bus came and I headed home to do a rough draft of the tshirt layout.

by the time Mackenzie was home from school I had a rough draft put together...then it was just a matter of finalizing the idea.

in our final design I had to google 808 to make sure it was okay for school....did you know it's a police code for a noise disturbance???

Tuesday I printed up the shirt and she was ready to rock her shirt for spirit day.

Tomorrow is crazy hair day so she'll be sporting a pink 'do.

On Friday, I took our oldest son in to take the test for his learners permit...I'm having a tough time believing I have a child old enough to drive, but he's now got the DMV issued learners permit to prove it.

A project I've been meaning to share

This is a project I've been meaning to share since the holidays and kept forgetting to post. This year just before the holidays my husband told me he was going to {make} a present for our daughter for Christmas. Now while this may not seem strange to some of you, it was a TOTAL and COMPLETE SHOCK to me. You see, my hubbs is NOT a crafty guy, he's just not into that type of thing....but when he said he had a plan I was sooo excited to see what he had in mind.

well a quick trip to home depot for a piece of board and some cool paint and he was all set to create. He printed off a stencil and went to work with our scroll saw....I was so impressed!

His design turned out just perfect for our daughter and she LOVED it!

A little reminder

This morning I woke up to a little reminder from my daughter{who's 9}. I'm guessing the selection for lunch box fillers has been a little limited because I woke up to find a grocery list my daughter put together for me on the kitchen table. She's really good about putting a good healthy lunch together, while I fall into the rush of tossing a pb and j sandwich and a handful of chips into the lunch box when I put things together. Most days she packs a lunch for herself and somedays even puts together a brown bag lunch for her brothers. So this morning while making the bus run to drop the boys off to school we stopped by the grocery store to grab a few things for her to put together.

As we closed out 2010 I realized how much I appreciate the fact that this year I spent some time organizing my business. I implemented a file system for orders, receipts, and I did my books weekly with quickbooks. Honestly, last year at this time, I opened the bottom drawer of my china hutch to find an entire drawer FULL of receipts {running a business accumulates A LOT of paper}only to realize I needed to print a years worth of orders before I could do my books and have them ready to be used for taxes.
I spent this morning working on my calendar and replacing my file folders and moving the 2010 folders into their storage box. Now that the file folders have been replaced, it just looks so fresh and clean!

All the files from 2010 have been neatly tucked away!

Continuing on with my plans for 2011, I just ordered a business card design from Danielle {TheDesignGirl}. I'm so excited to get the design and place my order. I'm just about out of my old cards so it's fun to replace them with a fresh new design.

Just as we pack away the last remnants of the holidays and start the new year with the rude awakening of the first 5am alarm of the year. We find ourselves surprised by a beautiful snow storm...such a rare occasion for us here in Vegas.

Wow, it's hard to be 2011 is almost here, I've had to use the date a few times already typing.... 1.1.11 with a start like that it's gonna be a great year!
2010 has been quite a year for us with many struggles and many successes. It always amazes me to take a few minutes and reflect on all that really did happen throughout the year.

I'm looking forward to a wonderful New Year! May 2011 bring you all that your heart desires.

I helped my daughter with a sewing project. We thought and thought about what she could sew and finally came up with Christmas stockings. She's new to sewing, she's made a few small pouches for the family cell phones and Ipod's...as well as a pillow case for her room. It turned into a fun shopping trip where she picked out some fabulous colored fat quarters. This morning, I googled stocking templates online, only to find once I printed them they were too small, so I drew a template on a piece of cardboard and we cut the fabric out with that as the pattern. After a bit of flipping fabrics around I managed to get the pieces laid out for her to stitch together. I haven't done alot of sewing myself so getting all the layers in order is really much more complicated then it seems!

As these projects continue we're having a great time as she learns to sew! I'm so proud of her and the fact the she loves to learn new things.

I took a quick trip to the mall the other day with my daughter and she decided she'd like to go talk to Santa...so as we walked to his section we started talking about what she'd like for Christmas. Her plan was to ask for a lime green Dell laptop and while I think this is a spectacular gift idea, I suggested that she might ask for something else too so that she would be surprised {and not broken hearted when the lime green laptop wasn't awaiting her under the tree on Christmas morning}. So we walked a bit while she did some thinking, then just as we approached with her all ready to go talk to Santa, they closed off the gate...soooo while we were close, just not close enough...thankfully I know you can email Santa so we'll do that soon.
Or maybe tomorrow while she's out of school and the boys both have school we'll sneak back over to the mall for a quick lunch and visit with Santa.

I didn't blog at all over the Thanksgiving week. We took a family trip that took us on the road to Seattle, then over to see my mom and dad in Montana, then back home to Vegas.

I'm getting caught back up on everything, decking the halls, checking my lists, and getting life back in order.

I am so Thankful!

First thing this morning, I got my hubb's off to work then got the kids up and moving. Once everyone was up, I put a quick call in to the hospital to check on my mom. WOOHOO, she's doing Awesome! I can't tell you how good it felt to get to talk to her today. She's in alot, {ALOT} of pain but that comes with having your entire chest cavity opened up, but she's doing so well!

Then I got the kids all off to school and took a few phone calls, one was a phone strategy session with a business manager/marketing coach/all around Guru! I have pages of notes...the only thing she didn't have was the magic key to add 2 xtra hours to my day once everyone's tucked into bed at night...but I'm working on that.

I have some great tutorial's coming up. I just need to get to home depot for a nice size board to use for the first one.

{but} in all this I had chance to really look at where I am, where I'm going, how I'm going to get there. And dang if things aren't going spectacular. I am so thankful for the business I have. I get to wake in the morning and KNOW I'm gonna have a great day at work because I LOVE what I do. I meet the most wonderful people through my shop!

I have the support of a great family. My hubb's and kids are the best. I couldn't ask for more.

I'm so Thankful that things are going so well with my mom, I honestly never expected it to all go so well, and while I type this I know she has a long road to recovery but I'm so hopeful that everything will continue to go this well.

I'm truly Thankful and looking forward to the Holiday's ahead, and excited with the prospect of what 2011 will bring.

not going to be getting much sleep tonight

I'd love to be able to curl up on the couch and "yak" the night away with my mom because I'm sure she's not going to be sleeping much tonight either. Tomorrow morning at 6am she checks into the hospital with her open heart surgery scheduled for 7am. I know things never go as planned as far as times and schedules, but I'm on the sidelines for this one 15 hours away. My dad will be there with her and I know she's in good hands but I'll still be waiting on pins and needles all day while I await phone calls updating me on her condition. I am so glad she'll have friends and family with her, but those of us that are far away will be right there with her in our hearts!

UPDATE I just got the call I've been waiting on and things went well with her surgery. they did 5 bi-passes and have thus far been able to keep her kidney's functioning...so a huge sigh of relief and now begins the recovery for her.

Learning to Sew.

This weekend my daughter decided she'd like to learn to sew. Which may sound like a fabulous idea....if only I knew how to sew well. But heck, where there's a will there's a way {right}. This weekend as her first project she made me a cute little fabric pouch for my blackberry..I mean {how cute is that!}

Then today while I was at walmart I came across a pillow case kit on clearance that I thought might be fun. It looked easy enough. I thought it would be a great beginner project.

Once she got home from school and got all her homework out of the way she got started on her project...{let me tell it wasn't nearly as easy I had envisioned}

But after reading the instructions 52 times, and ripping out the threads for her because I told her to pin it together {wrong} I'm still not entirely convinced I figured out how it was supposed to go together, that last step got really confusing{shh please don't tell her though, she's convince I know what I'm doing}...and it's finished and she's a happy, proud little girl...and I'm one tired mama!

I woke up this morning and got Lee's {my hubb's for those who don't know} Chai made. This is a daily thing, he's a starbucks chai tea latte junkie, so I buy the Chai concentrate and make him a chai tea every morning. Once he headed out the door, I kicked back with my cup of coffee to plan out my day. I'm sooo busy that I need a {plan}, well not really but I'm a list maker, it's just who I am. I'm a bit of a paper addict so calendars, planners, lists of all sorts are my thing.
{1} on my list was to light a few candles. The suns not up yet so the glimmer of the candle light just shimmers with hope.
{2} on my list was to get the orders for today printed, sorted and set up on the cut sheet.
{3} on my list was to put together a short chore list for each of my kids, it's another staff development day for their school, so they'll be working for me a bit today.
{4} on my list is to take a moment and enjoy the candles, the coffee, {the paper, I love the feel of the paper in my planner}...and really realize how very lucky I am. I started circlelinestudio in September of 2008 and each day I wake up excited at the prospect of what it will bring.

Yesterday while I was running a few errands, I believe I found a new {love}!

I've waited patiently and staked out all the stores for the seasonal release of coffeemates pumpkin spice creamer.....and then yesterday, it all came together for me....Imagine as I stood in the coffee aisle and saw Dunkin Donuts PUMKIN SPICE COFFEE que the music and lights! It just might be LOVE!

This week I started out by getting a dinner selection for my hubb's and my kids so the menu is put together, now to get the groceries lined up and get it all in order.

This week is going to be a test for the entire family.
{1} and absolutely MOST important, we're awaiting a phone call from my mom with the dates and plans for her surgery. She's had a very difficult couple of weeks and is at the point where it's [time] for the open heart surgery she needs. All of our thoughts, prayers and focus is on her and my dad.

while I wait on the call I'm scrambling to get as much work done as possible

{2}I've put together a menu plan for the week, everyone in the fam picked their choice for dinner one night. So now it's time to plan the grocery list and make a run to the grocery store.

{3}I'm going to be adding a few [Wall Word] decals to the shop today

{4}I need a trip to office max for shipping tubes and to go coffee cups!

{5}I'll be working on a blog makeover.

I took a walk this morning and had a chance to visit with my mom. She's in the hospital right now going through some very serious medical issues so it was so nice to get a chance to talk to her before her room filled back up with friends and family and medical staff. Physically, I'm a long ways away but in my heart I'm right there with her and my dad.
